Making Christmas Tree decorations
In Sewing Club we made our own felt Christmas tree decorations. To make our decorations, first we choose one of four cardboard templates. Using tailors chalk we carefully drew around our template onto our chosen felt, we did this twice for the front and back of our decoration. Then being very careful we used scissors to cut out our felt decorations. Before we stitched the two pieces together we stitched on beads/ buttons to add detail to our decorations. We then used blanket stitch to sew our back and front together. Before we completely stitched our decoration together we stuffed it with cushion stuffing to make our decoration 3D. We also stitched a piece of ribbon to it so we could hang it from our Christmas trees. We are very proud of our hard work over a few sewing club weeks!
Making woollen gnomes/ gonks
Our second project in Sewing club was to make a woollen gnome/ gonk. We used part of a kitchen roll tube and red wool to make the hat. We made a knot in the wool around the piece of cardboard tube. Once we had completely filled the cardboard ring we were then able to use another piece of red wool to tie all the tops together. To make the beard we wrapped grey wool around a piece of card many times. We then pulled the wool off the card and used a piece of wood to tie the middle together. Once secure we cut the ends of the wool. We stuffed the hat with some stuffing then used a glue gun to glue the beard to the hat. We chose a coloured bead for the nose and glued that onto the beard. We trimmed the excess strand of string from the hat and bead. We added a long loop of wool so we could hand it from our Christmas trees.
